چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to draw upon the vast bank of Human Factors Research and indicate how the existing results may be applied to the field of HumanRobotic interfaces (HRIs). HRI development tends to be an after thought, as researchers approach the problem from an engineering perspective. Such a perspective implies that the HRI is designed and developed after the majority of the robotic system design has been completed. Additionally, many researchers claim that their HRI is “intuitive”, “easy to use”, etc. without including actual users in the design process or performing proper user testing. This paper attempts to indicate the importance of developing an HRI that meets the users’ needs and requirements while simultaneously developing the robot system. There exists a vast pool of Human Factors research based upon complex systems. This research contains many results and theories that may be applied to the development of HRIs.

An Experimental Study on Blinking and Eye Movement Detection via EEG Signals for Human-Robot Interaction Purposes Based on a Spherical 2-DOF Parallel Robot

Blinking and eye movement are one of the most important abilities that most people have, even people with spinal cord problem. By using this ability these people could handle some of their activities such as moving their wheelchair without the help of others. One of the most important fields in Human-Robot Interaction is the development of artificial limbs working with brain signals. The purpos...

Design and development of ShrewdShoe, a smart pressure sensitive wearable platform

This study introduces a wearable in-shoe system for real-time monitoring and measurement of the plantar pressure distribution of the foot using eleven sensing elements. The sensing elements utilized in ShrewdShoe have been designed in an innovative way, they are based on a barometric pressure sensor covered with a silicon coating. The presented sensing element has great linearity up to 300...

Comment: Applications of robotics in the clinical laboratory

The implementation of a robotic workstation in the clinical laboratory involves considerations and compromises common to any instrument design and development activity. The trade-off between speed and flexibility not only affects the way the instrument interacts with human operators and other devices (the 'real-world interface'), but also places limitations on the adaptation of chemistries to t...
